It was Percys first day back at Camp Half Blood; he came back three weeks later than the date when the other campers came back. Everyone was concerned if he wasnt coming back ever again, or he had died. Percy received great welcome backs from the campers, but he couldnt find his closer friends, his friends he wanted to see the most. After unpacking his stuff in cabin three, he went to go search for his friend Annabeth. He checked everywhere he could before the conch horn blew, telling the campers it's time for lunch. He looked at the Athena table to see if Annabeth was there, but she was nowhere to be seen. After lunch he walked down to the beach to relax for a bit. He lies in the sand with his feet touching the surf.
"Hey there Seaweed Brain," he sat up and turned to see who talked, it was Annabeth.
He quickly stood up, and said, "Hey."
They gave each other a welcome back, hug and sat down on the sand together. "I've been looking for you all day, wise girl." She blushed, and said, "Sorry about that, I was at my cabin. I just heard you were back." She continues, "Where were you for the past three weeks?" She asked.
"I was working."
"You have a job?" She was surprised to hear this.
"Yeah, working at the recreational center"
"I'm glad you're back." She said.
She leaned back and bathed in the sun.
He was about to do the same but accidently set his hand on top of hers. She didn't pull away, but he slowly did. She grabbed his hand and held it tight. "It was about the…" he couldn't say anymore, they gazed into each others eyes. Without realizing it they were leaning closer together, until they were a few inches apart. Their lips skimmed each other, but they were interrupted "Awww, I'm going to puke." They backed away from each other, red-faced, and looked who interrupted them. Some of the Ares kids came out of the woods and walked towards them.
"Here we go again." Annabeth mumbled, and together she and Percy stood up.
"What do you guys want?" Percy said, getting an angry look on his face.
"Didn't want us to ruin your special moment Jackson?" an Ares boy said.
Their faces went red, and Percy mumbled, "Too late."
Some of the Aphrodite girls came out of the forest, and said. "Come on guys, you are messing up everything, he was about to kiss her." The Aphrodite and the Ares kids started to argue, and Percy whispered in Annabeth's ear. "Come on, while they are distracted." And together they walked back into camp and went to the Arena to practice with her other siblings.
It was now dinner time, and after that Percy went straight to his cabin and went to bed. Annabeth walked back to her cabin with all of her Athena siblings. "I heard what happened today, Annabeth." One of her sisters said.
"What did you hear?" There were a few disapproving looks in the group.
"About you and Percy-" she was interrupted when Annabeth blushed, and quickly said.
"No, nothing happened."
"So you didn't kiss him?"
"No."
"You know what mother would say? 'I'm not going to have a Poseidon son brainwash my daughter, into liking him, then go and break her heart."
"What?? He's not like that, and we're just friends."
"Seriously Annabeth, don't fall for him."
"I'm not."
"What ever, we saw what's in your journal. The kiss you shared with him under Mt. St. Helens. And last summer that kiss during dinner. We know how you feel about him, and it's wrong."
Her face went bright red, "YOU READ MY DIARY…And so what if I like him. We are just friends, nothing more."
"Whatever."
The next morning around 5:30, Percy woke up. He took a walk down to the beach to watch the sun rise. To his surprise Annabeth was there, sitting on the sand. He came up and sat next to her, "Hey."
She turned around, with a surprised look on her face. "Oh, hey," She looked back out into the ocean.
"Why are you up so early?" He asked.
"Couldn't sleep, why are you up so early?" She laughed, lying down on the sand.
"Couldn't sleep," they sat in silence looking at the waves crashing down on the beach. There were some giggles coming from the woods behind them, but they didn't think too much of it. The conch horn blew, indicating it's time for breakfast. Together they walked to the pavilion. When they reached to the pavilion they saw their friend Thalia sitting at the Artemis table surrounded by many hunters. They walked over to her. "Thalia, I'm so glad to see you." Annabeth tackled her with a hug.
"Hey there Annabeth, hey Percy," they gave each other a hug and they sat at their own tables. After breakfast together, the three of them walked and talked.
"Peter Johnson." Mr. D. called out.
"Ugh, I'll talk to you guys later," and he walked back towards Mr. D.
"Yes sir?"
There was a new girl standing next to him, and he said. "This is Mona Heap-"
"Mariah Hope." She interrupted him.
"Whatever, I need you to show her around the camp."
"Ok. Come on Mariah." And together he showed her the camp. They came up towards the cabins. "What cabin will I be staying at?"
"Who's your parent?"
She thought about it for a sec, "I'm not sure."
"Uh ok, then you will be staying in cabin eleven for now until you are claimed."
"Ok, can you show me where cabin eleven is?"
"Yeah, sure," they walked towards the cabin.
"Thank you for showing me around, Peter."
"It's actually Percy; Mr. D. gets my name wrong."
She kissed him on the cheek and opened the door, "Thanks Percy." And she walked inside. He was blushing for sure, and said. "Aphrodite for sure," he turned around and saw Thalia arms crossed across her chest, giving him the evil eye, and Annabeth disappointed look on her face. She turned around and started walking away, "Smooth move, Seaweed Brain." Thalia said, and she ran off towards Annabeth.
"What the heck did I do?" and he walked back towards his Archery lessons. After his lesson he went down to the arena, and found Annabeth training with her siblings. He was about to yell out her name when another girl came up and tackled him with a hug. "Hey Percy"
"Hi Mariah." He choked out. She led him out of the arena and said. "Guess what I just barely got claimed."
"That's great, who's your parent?"
"Aphrodite."
"I knew it," he muttered to himself.
"What was that?"
"Nothing, congrats," Just then Annabeth came out of the arena and saw them talking, then quickly walked back in. He didn't think much of it, and he continued talking to Mariah. Later after lunch, he walked to his cabin. There standing in the middle of his room was the goddess herself, Aphrodite. "Why are-" he stopped himself, thinking she will turn him to ashes for being so "disrespectful".
"What did I do wrong?" He asked, confused of the entire situation.
"You messed up my plans with you, Perseus Jackson, and with one of my own daughters too." Aphrodite said; she was glaring down on him.
"Seriously, what did I do wrong?"
"Watch it boy, you messed up your chance to be with Annabeth." Aphrodite said; the look on her face was disappointed.
"What are you talking about?"
"That evening at the beach, you almost sealed the deal. You and her were about to fall in love. Then you were stupid and go after one of my daughters."
Anger filled inside him, "I didn't mean for this to happen, I never wanted to hurt her."
"I'm giving you a chance to fix your mistake Perseus Jackson." Aphrodite said.
"How am I going to fix it?" And with that she vanished, leaving him more confused than ever. He walked over to the Athena cabin. Standing there in the door way was Thalia, with her arm around a girl that was sobbing, soon then he realized it was Annabeth. He didn't know what to say, he couldn't go through with it, so he walked to the pavilion and waited for dinner.
After dinner, Mr. D stood up and started to say the announcements. "Ok listen up, this insufferable camp is requested by Aphrodite herself, to have a dance. It is mandatory to go." There was excitement through the air, "There will be some tuxedos and dresses be sold at the camp store." The guys were freaking out how they are going to ask the girl out; the girls were worried if someone won't ask them. Unfortunately there were more guys than girls. So who ever was without a date has to do clean up duty and serve the refreshments. Percy thought to himself 'I know I won't get a date, what girl would go to the dance with a loser like me.' He skipped the camp sing along, and went straight to his cabin. When he opened the door, he found Thalia waiting for him, this can't be good.
